Original Court & Spark Dala Horse Lavender Bag Tutorial

Here's my original tutorial - a version of which was published in Sew Hip Issue 30 July 2011.

This tutorial is for lavender hangers made using a horse design but it could easily be applied to any other shape or piece of fabric you like...

Step 1

• Choose the horse or other shape on the cloth you want to use and cut out a square around it.
• Cut a matching square of backing fabric.
• Cut ribbon to required length (mine is approx. 25 cm)

Step 2

• Place the pieces right sides together and pin at the bottom.
• Fold fabric apart.
• Place ribbon against right side and pin in place (as above). 
• Fold fabric back together remembering to roll up the ribbon so it doesn't get caught up in the stitching.

Step 3

• Pin - I usually pin across the outline of the horse shape but if the shape looks faint or you feel unsure, you can always trace the outline first with some tailor's chalk.

Step 4

• Taking your time, machine stitch carefully around the outline of the horse leaving an approx. 1.5 cm gap along the belly for stuffing. 

Step 5

• Remove pins and trim seams.

Step 6

• Turn right side out and press if required.

Step 7

• Generously stuff the the horse with a mix of lavender and polyfill - doing this inside a clear plastic bag saves a lot of mess (!)

Step 8

• Hand stitch the gap closed using ladder stitch and sew button in place to finish.

End

Court & Spark Lavender Dala Horse Tutorial in Sew Hip Issue 30 - a bit disappointing...

Nice of them to let me know but I thought I'd just share that my Dala Horse Lavender Bag tutorial was included in Issue 30 of Sew Hip which I believe has been out for a little while now... It's all a bit disappointing as there is no mention of Court & Spark - only some lovely free mentions for three of my suppliers - ? And all my hard work photographing the tutorial has been replaced by some (in my opinion) quite scrappy illustrated diagrams :(

I am going to post my original tutorial here on the blog on Wednesday.

Anyway at least the little horses made the front page...(!)

Craft Stall at Northampton Vintage & Handmade Fair

Here are a few pics of me setting up my stall on Saturday... It was such a beautiful sunny day and it really felt like Spring was almost here(!)

It was also really lovely to meet some fellow crafts sellers / bloggers in person - in particular Annie aka The Felt Fairy and her daughter Amy of Blighty Boutique who had some really fab vintage pieces on her stall.

Then there was Sharon from Clover Cottage / Shabby Polka Dots who took some great pictures too(!) and I managed to pick up some gorgeous fabric from Ticking Stripes - watch this space for new items made with this...

1. I am half Sri-Lankan.
2. My birthday is September 11th - yes that's right 9/11 - no one ever forgets it once I tell them...
3. My Paper Wedding Anniversary (1st) is on May 1st this year and so we're planning to take full advantage of the extra bank holiday we'll get for Wills & Kate's big day(!)
4. I have a deferred place at Law School which I should take up in September but Court & Spark is threatening to take over my life!
5. I have the most sweet-natured rescued tabby cat named Leonard - after Leonard Coen...
6. I have seen Bob Dylan play live five times so far in my life (my husband is a massive fan)
7. I have a degree in Film Production and my last 'proper' job was at FilmFour...
